Passion Projects: Arts & Culture

Residential landscape architecture comprises over 90% of our design portfolio. However, we are fortunate enough to be able to engage in a handful of community projects that help us fulfill the mission of worthy nonprofits in Southwest Florida, and allow us to expand our creativity.

Recently we have had the opportunity to provide master landscape plans for the Elling Eide Center and The Hermitage Artist Retreat. The Elling Eide Center is a private research library and nature preserve overlooking Little Sarasota Bay. Dedicated to the study of classical Chinese literature and art, the Center fills a unique role in the cultural and scholarly landscape of its Florida coastal location. The Hermitage Artist Retreat welcomes world-class creators of all disciplines to work in and among “Old Florida” buildings that have been restored into living and studio space along the Gulf of Mexico.

For both the Elling Eide Center and The Hermitage Artist Retreat, our designs were informed by the missions of these organizations. The arts were celebrated. Native ecosystems were revered and restored. Materials were carefully chosen to integrate seamlessly with the architecture. These are the kinds of non-residential projects we love to accept, and watch come to life.
