Our season is in full swing here in Sarasota, and in this month’s edition of Community First, we celebrate an epicenter of the arts and culture scene that draws so many here each spring: The Asolo Repertory Theatre. Asolo Rep stages up to fifteen productions every season, spanning a diverse repertoire of newly commissioned plays, bold reinterpretations of contemporary and classical works, and provocative new musical theatre experiences.
Asolo Rep is also proud to have an ongoing partnership with the FSU/Asolo Conservatory for Actor Training, ranked among the top ten actor training programs in the country. Conservatory students undergo a rigorous three-year Master of Fine Arts program, culminating with the third-year students’ inclusion as part of Asolo Rep’s mainstage company. This unique collaboration has proven to be a successful formula for producing the highest quality professional theatre while providing first-rate training for America’s next generation of actors.
The signature fundraising event for Asolo Repertory Theatre is tomorrow evening, March 2nd, at the Ritz Carlton in Sarasota. This year’s Annual Gala, Vive les Folies Bergère, celebrates the legendary Folies Bergère music hall and variety-entertainment theatre known for its lively and bold acts with extravagant costumes, sets and special effects. It showcased the talents of many great entertainers and became the premiere nightspot in Paris. Musical entertainment will feature sounds from the 1920s. All Gala proceeds will support the artists and the theatre’s award-winning Education & Community Engagement programs.
If you’d like to witness the magic of a production this season at Asolo Rep, you can enjoy one of the following performances this month:
- The Crucible (through March 10)
- A Doll’s House Part 2 (through March 31)
- Sweat (through April 13)
- Noises Off (March 20-April 20)
We were first introduced to the behind-the-scenes work of Asolo Rep through a client who is a volunteer and staunch supporter of the theatre, and our company has been proud to followed her lead, with donations to silent auctions and special events benefiting Asolo Rep. We support their mission and encourage you to go to the theatre this season!
