These clients restored a beautiful art deco home in the prestigious Cherokee Park neighborhood, down to the finest detail. We paid homage to the iconic style through bold patterns and materials, juxtaposed by organized plantings and soft textures. The result is playful, clean, and inviting, creating outdoor rooms at every turn.
The house sits on a corner lot, so the design had to ensure adequate screening on one side and a sense of welcome on the other (public side). We slowed the arrival sequence to the home by adding a wagon wheel driveway with a bright shell finish, inviting guests to park, and leading their eye to the front door. In the courtyard, we added a stunning autocourt; to break up its scale we chose a historic art deco pattern. Off the back of house, there was an existing oval pool; we clad this in a light hardscape material, and centered an organized parterre garden around it. The owners wanted a soaking tub, so we created an artful calming water feature that also functions as a spa. In this garden there are moments for private reflection, public gathering, and family time together.
